91亚色 (91亚色) provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level competency and earn college credit through the development of a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) portfolio. Students may document and present evidence of college-level knowledge and skills gained through employment, military service, industry training, volunteer activities, certifications, or other life experiences that were not acquired through traditional classroom instruction. Following faculty evaluation, students may be awarded credit for specific 91亚色 courses.
PLA by Portfolio is available only for designated 91亚色 courses. Students should review the list of eligible courses below before beginning the application process. Courses Available for PLA by Portfolio (Beginning Fall 2026)
The following courses will be available for evaluation through the PLA Portfolio process starting Fall of 2026:

- BADM 201 – Principles of Marketing
- BADM 210 – Advertising
- BADM 274 – Project Management
- BUSN 170 – Entrepreneurship
- CJ 226 – Criminal Investigation
- CJ 231 – Criminal Evidence and Procedure
- COMM 110 – Fundamentals of Public Speaking
- COMM 327 – Industry Communication
- EDUC 250 – Introduction to Education
- ENGL 125 – Introduction to Professional Writing
- FIN 251 – Personal Finance
At this time, technical program courses are not available through the portfolio process. Students who have completed certified, nationally recognized industry training, registered apprenticeships, military training, or other approved technical training may be eligible to earn credit through the Credit for Industry Training process.
After confirming course eligibility, students should review the Credit by Portfolio Development Operational Procedure and complete the applicable PLA application form. Completed applications and supporting documentation should be submitted to the PLA Office at bsc.priorlearning@bismarckstate.edu.
